Hiking the Grand Canyon

What with all that cactus, (as the tourist brochures will even admit) you shouldn't be afraid to give Arizona a great big hug.

In Arizona, pitch your tent within some of the coolest national forests in the country, or make your way high up in the mountains where camping and hiking are at their peak during even the hottest months of the summer.

Up north, find your way to mysteries of the Petrified Forest and the vivid beauty of the Painted Desert, then head south to the jaw-dropping awesomeness of the Grand Canyon.

From primitive tent camping in the state parks to soft and cozy RV resorts, you'll find a variety of campgrounds in Arizona. You can choose to get away from it all in campsites secluded within stands of towering ponderosas, or pick a campground near a scenic lake or nestled against a major highway.

Just remember that during the height of the tourist season competition can be stiff. While some campgrounds and RV parks take reservations, others may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Without planning ahead you may find many of the them filling up early. Have fun, but whenever hiking, camping or RVing in AZ, beat the crowds by always having ready a plan "B" to avoid disappointment....
