Leading up to the big race, 2024 Preakness post positions and morning line odds were announced several days prior to the race with Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan (5-2) among the top contenders for a shot at the Triple Crown. Other big favorites included Bob Baffert-trained Imagination, Brad Cox’s Catching Freedom and Chad Brown’s Tuscan Gold. Muth, another heavy favorite for this year's Preakness, was scratched due to a fever. Preakness long shots? Uncle Heavy at 20-1t was a good choice if you favored underdogs. And, just for laughs, there was dark horse Magatu who was named for the evil villain in "Zoolander" ('"so hot right now") for another possible big payout at 20-1:
