DID YOU KNOW? Maine Christmas fun facts
Merry Christmas from Kennebunkport!
• Every year, Santa comes to town in Kennebunkport, Maine on a lobster boat. Santa is accompanied by Mrs. Claus and two helpers dressed as lobster elves, and their arrival signals the start off the annual "Christmas Prelude" -- featuring a Christmas tree made entirely of (what else?) lobster traps.
• In 2008, the Guinness Book of World Records recorded the world’s tallest snowman, (in this case, a snow woman) created by residents of Bethel, Maine. Weighing in at 13 million pounds and standing 122-ft. tall, Olympia the snow woman was only a few feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty.
• January 14 is not the deadline for removing Christmas decorations in Maine despite stories all over the Internet saying it's so. In fact, no such law exists. So if you live in Maine, feel free to leave those lights on for as long as you like. Unless, of course, the neighbors complain.
