That's when the American Music Awards winners are announced live on ABC in the US and on CTV in Canada.

New this year, watch for the awards telecast to move to a Tuesday in October -- from its traditional Sunday in November slot -- when the American Music Awards telecast airs on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.on live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Nominations for the 2018 American Music Awards were announced on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Leading the pack are Cardi B and Drake both tied with eight nominations.

And, back to host this year's show is "Black-ish" star Tracee Ellis Ross.

• The AMA's are the world's biggest fan-voted music award.

• Unlike the Grammy's (which cover the entire gamut of music genres) the AMA's recognize the most popular Top 40 hits.

• The very first AMA crystal trophy went to singer Roberta Flack in 1973. Since then, stars from every spectrum of the music scene have been recognized in more than 20 award categories.

• The record for most American Music Awards won is held by Michael Jackson with 26 awards including one for "Artist of the Century". For a female artist, the record for taking home an American Music Award belongs to Whitney Houston who won a total of 22.

• The record holder for most wins for Artist of the Year is Taylor Swift with three. Country singer Kenny Rogers holds the record for most wins for Song of the Year with five.
