american music awardsIt's one of the biggest nights in music in America.

That's when the American Music Awards winners are announced live on ABC in the US and on CTV in Canada.

New this year, the awards telecast moved to a Tuesday in October -- from its traditional Sunday in November slot -- when the American Music Awards telecast aired on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.on live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Back to host this year's show was "Black-ish" star Tracee Ellis Ross.

Nominations for the 2018 American Music Awards were announced on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Leading the pack were Cardi B and Drake both tied with eight nominations.

Opening the big show was Taylor Swift with a performance of “I Did Something Bad”. An all-star performance lineup also included Carrie Underwood, Post Malone (making his AMA stage debut) with Ty Dolla $ign -- plus Jennifer Lopez, twenty one pilots, Mariah Carey, Benny Blanco, Halsey, Khalid, Dua Lipa, Ciara, Missy Elliott, Camila Cabello, Zedd, Shawn Mendes, and Ella Mai.

Also on hand were Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin with a performance of “I Like It”, plus a special tribute to Aretha Franklin with performances by Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, and Cece Winans. And, direct from Sydney, Australia -- Panic! At The Disco paid tribute to Queen with a performance of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Presenters for the 2018 American Music Awards included a star-studded list of celebrities including Kelsea Ballerini, Tyra Banks, Kane Brown, Chloe x Halle, Macaulay Culkin, Lauren Daigle, Billy Eichner, Sara Gilbert, Katherine Hahn, Amber Heard, former Disney star Vanessa Hudgens, Taran Killam & Leighton Meester, Heidi Klum, Liza Koshy, Lenny Kravitz, Normani, Rita Ora, Busy Philipps, Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Evan Ross & Ashlee Simpson-Ross, John Stamos, Amandla Steinberg, The Chainsmokers, Constance Wu & the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody.
