Your 4-year old should be a party pro by now , - especially if they attend day care or preschool where they've learned to socialize and to share - at least a little!

Lively and energetic, 4-year olds certainly know what a party is all about - and expect to have lots of fun. Keep them busy with age-appropriate activities, but not for too long, and not too structured or competitive.

Ideal games to play include follow the leader, wherein kids can have fun burning off their extra energy following adult directions for skipping, hopping and jumping.

Another good idea is non-competitive musical chairs - in which no one is eliminated - but the chairs are! An explosion of giggles usually results as kids are forced pile on top of one another as the chairs are taken away.

Barbie, Batman, Dora the Explorer, sports, dinosaurs, or whatever holds the interest of your 4-year old are always good party themes. The party menu should only include favorite finger foods (think individual pizzas, chicken fingers) since all the party excitement may interfere with young appetites.
