Utah
The
Beehive State is the home of the Mormons and many expect the whole
state to be dry, but those expectations are far from the reality.
The
Utah wine cellar is one of the best stocked in the country and
the state's wineries produce both fruit wines and grape wines
that are top quality.
There
are advertising and marketing issues that are challenging the
industry, but the laws are becoming friendlier to wine lovers.
On the Web, find out more about wines made from the traditional
grape, along with other native fruits, more facts & history
on winemaking througout the state, and liquor laws that continue
to effect the modern Utah wine industry ...
Moab Area Wineries - There are two wineries in the
Moab area. Spanish
Valley Vineyards & Winery and Castle
Creek Winery. Located near Arches and the Colorado River,
both offer tours and tasting to guests.
La
Caille Restaurant - The wines made here are available
for sale as well as for drinking at the restaurant. The restaurant
regularly receives an award of excellence from Wine Spectator
Magazine for the combination of fine dining and fine wines, located
in Little Cottonwood Canyon near the Salt Lake area.
Utah
Winery Locator - Lists five operating wineries in
Utah with directions and contact information. The information
is still basically accurate, although the site for La Caille Restaurant
is now live.
Utah's
Peculiar and Curious Liquor Laws - One of the reasons
that wineries find it difficult to prosper in Utah - the Church
of the Latter Day Saints' view on alcohol, often reflected in
state law.
