Ouray, Colorado, "The Switzerland of America".

• Ouray, Colorado has earned its reputation as "The Switzerland of America" comfortably nestled within the towering peaks of the Rockies. Ouray is also known for a December-long holiday WinterFest featuring food festivals, fireworks displays, and the infamous Ouray ugly Christmas sweater dance.

• It's Christmas all year long in historic Georgetown, Colorado with shops that specialize in Christmas decorations, antiques, dollhouses, and a gift shop with an ice cream soda fountain dating back to 1901.

• A half-hour drive from downtown Denver and you can "Skate the Lake" at Evergreen Lake which often makes the list of Top Ten most beautiful outdoor ice skating rinks in America. During the season, almost nine acres of the 40-acre lake are set aside for one huge public skating rink, which also makes it home to the largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice skating rink in the world.

• If you're in Breckenridge for the holidays, bring your Santa costume to enter the annual breakneck (six-block long) Running of the Santas to help raise money for a local charity. Meanwhile, kids get their own pair of antlers to wear for the annual Reindeer Run.
