Lemony Green Beans

1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
3 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon zest (finely grated peel)


1. In medium saucepan combine salt and water.
2. Rinse and trim green beans.
3. Add beans to boiling salted water.
4. Cook on medium heat 7 minutes.
5. Drain off excess water.
6. Add remaining ingredients to saucepan and cook over low heat until the margarine or butter is melted.
7. Add beans to butter-lemon mixture and stir until the beans have all been coated.
8. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes before serving.
