With almost 80 percent covered in natural forest, West Virginia becomes prime fall foliage territory beginning in late September.
That's when the northeast becomes blanketed in rich Autumn color near Morgantown, where Coopers Rock State Forest and Prickett’s Fort State Park (near Fairmont) become prime destinations for leaf peepers.
Next comes central West Virginia where in mid-October the Cheat River Byway, Old Route 7 and the Northwestern Turnpike become favorites for cruisin' the local color. Come late October, and southern West Virginia is ablaze in red, yellow and gold as another fall foliage season comes to a close.
Enjoy the whole day, or the entire weekend, during West Virginia fall fetival season. Have fun!
