The largest beach in the state, Hammonasset Beach State Park attracts more than 1 million visitors each year.

Hole-in-the-Wall Beach in East Lyme is so named for its access through a short tunnel under the railroad tracks that leads to a stunning view of Long Island Sound.

• Westport’s Compo Beach was the site of the British invasion of Danbury, also known as Tryon’s Raid. Today, the famous Minuteman Statue stands in commemoration of a valiant defense against British forces during the American Revolution.
