This year, the seriously cute canine competition known as the AKC Championship streamed live online on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18, 2022 at AKC.org live from the Orange County Convention Center in
Orlando, FL.
ABC also later broadcast the group and Best in Show judging on January 1, 2023, New Year's Day beginning at 2 PM ET.
Hosted by the American Kennel Club, the
annual AKC National Championship is the largest dog show in all of North America, featuring more than 5,000 competitors and representing nearly 200 different breeds.
The event offers more than $150,000 in prize money (the largest of any U.S. show) with The Best in Show winner awarded $50,000.
And the winner is ...
Star the bulldog won

at the 2022 AKC Championship.
Best in Show winner at the 2022 AKC National Championship was Star, the bulldog, who beat out over 5,300 canines to win the top prize.
Star won Best in Group in the event's Non-Sporting Group before moving on to the Best in Show round, where six other talented pooches joined the canine: Bogart the Schnauzer, winner of the Working Group, Trumpet the Bloodhound, winner of the Hound Group; Josie the Spinone Italiano, winner of the Sporting Group; Stache the Sealyham Terrier, winner of the Terrier Group; Clark the Havanese, winner of the Toy Group, and Mercedes the German Shepherd, winner of the Herding Group.
Bogart the Schnauzer was the runner-up of the 2022 AKC National Championship, earning the dog the title Reserve Best in Show.

All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes.
• This weekend-long national dog show welcomes entries from all over the world and from all 197 AKC-recognized breeds as they face off for Best in Show.
• Although the AKC National Championship only began in 2001, the organization itself was formed in New York on September 17, 1884. Five years later, The American Kennel Club Gazette was founded, making it one of the oldest dog magazines on the planet.
• As if the show couldn't get more awww-some, in 2017 the AKC National All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes was created exclusively for puppy and junior purebred dogs, ages 6-18 months. It has been part of the show ever since.
• The AKC Museum of the Dog is located at the AKC headquarters in New York City, featuring a world class collection of dog art as well as digitally interactive displays.
