Held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. the Federated Auto Parts 400 is one of the most anticipated events of the season, as drivers are usually desperate for points in the final countdown to the season.
Dating back to 1958, the race at Richmond used to be run on Sunday, but was later moved to Saturday to become the second night race on the NASCAR schedule (joining Bristol which takes place a few weeks before.)
During the 2000's, a notable sponsor was Chevrolet when the race became known as the Chevy Rock 'n Roll 400 featuring major bands in pre-race music concerts.
Since then, sponsors have run the gamut from the Air National Guard to Wonderful Pistachios.
Race postponements in the recent past have occurred in 2008 when Hurricane Hannah whipped up the Atlantic coast and bumped the race to Sunday afternoon.
Today -- no matter the time, date, or sponsor (or weather!) -- the milestone Richmond night race remains a must-see for avid NASCAR fans nationwide.
