Get ready to celebrate National Taco Day on Friday, October 4, 2024 for a nationwide celebration of one of America's favorite munchies!

Great for snacks, at lunchtime, or even a casual dinner, tacos get star billing every year with special taco freebies and discounts offered at restaurant chains -- along with more fun to be had at home celebrations!

If you're inviting friends over for homemade tacos, be sure to make it a pot-luck party -- and remember to ask everyone to bring the toppings. That includes the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, guacamole, shredded cheese, sour cream, and other favorite toppings that make tacos a real taste sensation.

2024 National Tacos Day freebies, deals & discounts

What's better than tacos? Free tacos!

If last year was any indication, this year's deals will also probably include special discounts at more than a dozen Mexican food chains across the country on National Taco Day.

Last year, Taco Bell brought back its popular taco subscription for $10 entitling Taco Lover’s Pass members to one taco a day for 30 consecutive days -- for a month-long taco fiesta.

Jack in the Box followed with their Monster Tacos for 99 cents. El Torito and Long John Silvers joined in by offering free tacos with the purchase of an entree.

Not to be outdone, Chuy’s customers had ground beef tacos added to any entrée for just $1 on National Taco Day. And, If you showed up dressed as a taco, it was all free!

National Taco Day fun facts


The biggest taco: a city block long.

•,Every year, a whopping 3.5 billion tacos are sold at local Mexican restaurants, nationwide chains, and from neighborhood food trucks coast to coast.

• America's favorite taco, of course, is from Taco Bell, which also happens to be America's most popular Mexican food restaurant chain. About half the US population visits a Taco Bell once every 10 days or so.

• Literally translated to "plug" or "wad", taco was originally a pieces of paper filled with gunpowder that helped extract valuable ore from silver-rich Mexican mines. (So think of that the next time you bite into the rich taste of a taco!)

• In Queretaro, Mexico, a taco measuring 335 feet long captured the Guinness record in 2019. Stretching for an entire city block, the world's largest taco was stuffed with 3,322 lbs. of shredded pork and made with 2.646 lbs of corn tortillas.
